Key Players

Key Players English

Keyplayers! is a European network of countries that campaigns for the active participation of young people in sports activities.

The idea behind the active participation of young people between the ages of 14 and 24 is not only that they take part in sports activities but, more particularly, that they are actively involved in setting up and running such activities. If young people have more influence on what is offered in the way of sports and exercise, the activities will be more in line with their wishes and the chance that they remain active is greater. Active participation is also a way of promoting health, reducing trouble and encouraging personal growth. Sports and exercise are used as tools.

The Netherlands Institute for Sport and Physical Activity (NISB) is the initiator of the network set up in 2004 in response to the good practice ‘whoZnext’. In 2005 and 2006, other initiatives were set up by the Netherlands and Norway. In addition to these two countries, organisations from

  • Finland
  • Romania
  • Latvia
  • Estonia
  • Austria
  • Poland
  • Italy

are active in the network, which always welcomes more organisations from other countries.
